ON LAND
The Malibu landscape is outlined by
beautiful mountain ranges, creating hiking
trails cooled by a refreshing sea breeze.
Malibu’s trails lead to a variety of scenic
views that range in difficulty. Solstice
Canyon is a family-friendly hike due to
its relatively flat terrain. It takes about
two hours to hike, and leads to a creek
and small waterfall. Charmlee Wilderness
Park has several trails, including one that
leads to an Ocean Overlook Area with
breathtaking views of the coastline.
Other activities for the
whole family to include
horseback riding, which is offered on
land-locked trails and on the beach.
Worth the extra fee, beach horseback
riding is truly spectacular at sunset.
You can also rent bikes to cruise the
town on two wheels, keeping an eye
out for Hollywood celebrities.
Like other beach towns in
Southern California, there is a “no
worries” state of mind throughout
Malibu. People are relaxed, strolling
around in flip flops and bathing suits,
and spending much of their time in
or by the ocean. It’s easy to get pulled
into the Malibu way of life, and once
you’re there, you’ll be hard-pressed
to leave.
DID YOU KNOW?
MALIBU TIDBITS
e
SOUNDS OF THE SURF.
Malibu was named by
the Chumash Indians who first
settled the area and named it
Humaliwo, meaning “the surf
sounds loudly.” The Chumash
flourished there until 1802 when
Malibu was settled by a Spanish
settler and later renamed Malibu.
r
SPANNING THE MILES.
The beautiful scenery and
relaxing beaches of Malibu stretch
21 miles along the ocean. A drive
down the famous Pacific Coast
Highway will take you through
Malibu with fantastic views of
seafront properties, the surrounding
mountains and the cresting waves.
t
WINE COUNTRY.
If you can
spare a moment away from
the kids, Malibu’s wineries are worth
checking out; the stunning views are
accompanied by activities such as
yoga, movie nights and even a safari.
u
TOP TEN.
There are 10
beaches that make up Malibu:
Surfrider Beach, Malibu Lagoon State
Beach, Dan Blocker Beach, Point
Dume State Beach, Westward Beach,
Zuma Beach, La Piedra Beach,
Nicholas Canyon Beach, El Pescador
Beach and El Matador Beach.
i
CAUGHT ON FILM.
It’s
no surprise that Malibu’s
picturesque scenery provides a
perfect backdrop for Hollywood
filmmakers. The beach house in
“Charlie’s Angels” was in Malibu,
which was the setting for other
films and TV shows including
“Planet of the Apes,” “Iron Man,”
and “Two and a Half Men.”
